Tamsym comments: Found in a charity shop on the Isle of Wight, I’ve been looking for a home for this baby for six months. It’s got all the hallmarks of a classic: nipples – check; vacuous expression – check; absolutely no relevance to the title – check.
I’m not saying ghosts can’t be gay, mind. But you have to wonder about the plot arc, eh?
Thanks so much to Tamsyn!

‘Your fabulousness is simply transparent sir ghost.’
Yea thats the best I could come up with. Best not start ghost puns though or CSA will burn our minds.

Honestly, after a story about a homosexual ghost, the other thirteen are only going to be a disappointment, aren’t they?
March 30th, 2010 at 12:36 pm
They made a movie adaptation of it. Originally Demi Moore’s character was meant to be played by John Travolta but they changed the story when Patrick Swayze said the story sounded a bit gay.

@SI I yeild my pun practice to Grandmaster Roberts. I’ve seen the error of my ways and will only use my puns for good instead of evil.
Stay Poof Marshmallow Man has always been my favourite ghost.

Gives a whole new meaning to that classic of 1970’s children’s TV – Rentaghost.

@CSA – You sicken me….
March 30th, 2010 at 2:48 pm
Holy shit, that’s quite something. The title, the art, the (non)relation between them…
March 30th, 2010 at 10:21 pm
… giggles …
March 30th, 2010 at 11:42 pm
Non-relation between the art and the title? I’ll have you know, sir, it’s quite a common thing to be ogled by lesbian ghosts while you make sexy poses at yourself in the mirror. At least in the FAR EAST, anyway.
By the way, I’m a new reader and I just wanted to say how wonderful this site is.

Man, I had a long post typed up for this one, but when I try to submit or preview it I get a Forbidden page and then the site times out for like 5 minutes. Ah well.

Jen> Thank you ๐ glad you are enjoying the covers!
Zazu> Yea.. we have some some interesting security here. It’s likely our naughty word filter was picking up something. Then it thinks you are a spam-bot, hence the time out. Sorry about that!

Yeah, I tried inserting a “d!ldo” a while back and couldn’t get it in, so I had to use a “sex toy” instead.

Sorry, accidental post.

Apparently my offending phrase was “As!an woman”. I’ll make sure to avoid that in the future.

So, my original post:
Wait, I think I know this ghost story.
It’s the touching late 50’s era story of a young woman of Asian descent who moves out of overbearing old-world parents house into a tiny one-bedroom in a Victorian on upper Height, scandalous behavior at the time, only to find out her new boudoir is haunted! By a man!
One who is highly critical of her interior design and fashion sense not to mention horrid dietary habits. Their relationship is combative at first as she tries to make her way as an independent woman of Asian descent working as a seamstress in SOMA sweatshops, fighting social mores of the day and her own communities conservative prejudices while he dislikes her changes to his ancestral home and makes snarky comments about her personal life.
But the relationship evolves to mutual respect, and eventual true friendship as he helps guide her towards becoming one of San Francisco’s first and foremost fashion designers of the 60’s!
It culminates in a touching scene on the morning of her most important meeting with two fashion magazine editors from New York, she awakes to find the ghost has overnight styled her the most perfect updo! Mod yet with just a hint of her proud Asian ancestry, it is the scene depicted on the cover of the book, she surely can not fail now!
Oh wait, I just read the subtitle on the cover: ’14 Erotic Tales from the FAR EAST.’ Yeah, I’m probably thinking of something else.

James> Guess you just have to ease it on in there.
April 3rd, 2010 at 8:25 pm
Oh, you’ve made me extremely happy by sharing this with an appreciative audience. As was so rightly pointed out to me, there’s no way that woman is gay; the interior decor is far too bad. Zazu is right about that up-do, though; it screams stylish yet available for erotic events.

I think there is a ghost on this cover, it’s a traditional floating sheet ghost. Although in that position I bet he feels a right tit.
October 27th, 2015 at 12:54 pm
Living in Melbourne Australia “the far east” immediately makes me think of New Zealand. Which means this is either sexy stories about Mฤoris and haka, or erotic tales describing slow panning shots of pure landscape porn.
October 27th, 2015 at 4:32 pm
@DaveM: You’d think it would be about sheep, then, wouldn’t you? But there’s none to be seen on that front cover…believe you me, I spent a long, long time staring, trying to find one. ๐

Sequels were
-THE STRAIGHT GHOST
-THE BI-CURIOUS GHOST
-THE ASEXUAL GHOST
-THE FURRY GHOST
-LOOK, IT’S A FRICKIN’ GHOST — WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?

@Dead Stuff (21): … think how deliciously meta your frustration would be, were this image censored by the shocked face of C.S. Lewis!

I was thinking “ooh, pre-Space Sheep!” but this picture really cries out to be Lewised.

Wait a minute, “Homo=Sexual”? Isn’t that going a bit far, stereotyping-wise?
August 21st, 2020 at 6:08 pm
The next season of ‘Ghost Hunters’ is going to be very interesting.
August 22nd, 2020 at 4:06 am
I agree with the long-gone Zazu Yen: the ghost is going to give her fashion advice.
I was extremely confused as a small child as to why Japan and China were called “the Far East” when I could see on a globe that they were way west of me in the US.
My mother explained — as she rather often had to, come to think of it — because the British.

Everything to the west is the far east if you go in the wrong direction.
No doubt the cover illustrates another one of those fourteen stories, perhaps “The Accursed Mirror” or “The Exhibitionist and the Radish Goblin”.
August 22nd, 2020 at 6:09 pm
@Bruce A Munro – Now “The Exhibitionist and the Radish Goblin” is definitely a story I want to read.
Even more, I want it to be the cover illustration, also. Space Sheep for days.
