MisterBOB Comments: There’s this great scene in the book, where the tiger has a burning log in his mouth and it looks just like a cigar. So funny.

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! Tyger Tyger burning bright
Look out, your flippin’ stick’s alight.

  2. Phil Says:

Judging from the orange light on the horizon, kitty has either set the jungle ablaze, or made a miraculous escape with a burning twig. I wonder if the OTHER end of the stick is also burning?

  3. Phil Says:

This one definitely gets a “Good Show, Sir” for the clever use of intersecting fonts, assuming it is Ratha’s Creature (with an R).

If it’s Patha’s Creature (with a P), not so good.

I like the tiger’s little white goatee. It’s just a shame he’s so thin on top. Mind you, I’m not one to talk …

  7. Adam Roberts Says:

‘Beware, my lord, of Ratha’s Creature
It is the green-eyed monster that doth
Carry a giant twiglet in its mouth
    Alight at one end …’

If you enjoyed the book, you’ll just LOVE the movie:

Wait a second… in the first 10 seconds of that video there’s a robot riding a fire breathing mechanical dragon!

One word… AWESOME! Phil you have made my week!

I also hazard a guess that the person who played the guitar might have had a mullet.

And Promeowtheus gave Man fire, and Man was thankful. Then Promeowtheus gave Man a hairball, and Man said “WTF is that?”.

  13. Adam Roberts Says:

Bless you Phil, that link is magic. Yes the animated titles are great; but Bob Keeshan walking onto set and delivering his spiel made me laugh about loud. I think it was the way his mouth said ‘…for one band of large, intelligent cats …’ whilst his eyes said ‘I’m dead inside’.

  14. jerk of all trades Says:

…to which Promeowtheus responded by grabbing Man’s ankle in his forepaws while kicking and biting as though it were not a foot but a prey animal, and Man said AUUGH AAUGH WHAT THE HELL GET OFF ME YOU CRAZY CAT, causing Promeowtheus to run off under the couch and have much hurt feelings. Later he would attempt to atone for this previous misunderstanding by giving Man dead mice on his doorstep every morning for all eternity.

    @Dalton H. that was classic….made my day.

  17. Clare Bell Says:

I actually thought it was pretty strange myself, to see Ratha smoking a stogie. The publisher was Grafton, and no, I did not see the cover art before the books appeared. The US covers got better. LOL.

  18. lenn Says:

Loved the book, you have to admit, that is a pretty laughable cover.

  20. B. Chiclitz Says:

When they finally caught up with the poor creature, they found him exhausted and on the brink of death, turning endlessly in a left hand circle, around a patch of ground he had worn bare. “My god what have they done to him?” wondered Bell the Explorer aloud. “Looks like they got him stoned and then burned off the whiskers from the right side of his muzzle, down to the root,” replied Clare, the Sidekick, adding, “Those alternate world devils!”
