Art Direction: Long ago an old wise man gave me an ancient remedy to find my inner soul. I looked into a mirror and my face was elongated, like in one of those wacky mirrors at a funfair. I couldn’t help but notice the four screws of enlightenment, it made me cry. Turned out I’d just taken LSD, but what the hell, it would make an awesome cover! Published 1979
Well, believe it or not Good Show Sir will be two years old today! And boy do we have a strange surprise for you all. We’ve gathered some of the best covers from over the past two years and made them into two separate montages of epicness! Epicness is a word, right?
Just want to thank everyone who has helped out, sent covers in and commented over our time here. Also a very special thanks to Sophaloaf for putting together our video collections!
It’s great to have made a place where people can come and enjoy these amazing pieces of art that grace our book covers, with a bit of laughter! I hope Good Show Sir has helped people appreciate their covers that little bit more and possibly notice great looks of confusion on public transport while reading one.
Firstly, we have our Quantum Collection – Quantum you ask? Hopefully the sound track will help you realise why.
Secondly, where would we be without the HUNKS of Sci-Fi and Fantasy? Watch, if you are ready!
Art Direction: A giant circular brain, with eyes I might add, in some sort of… drill vice! There’s no way it could look like a giant eyed cookie or strange bondage moon face. Right? Published 1979
Richard’s Art Direction:
“The hardback didn’t sell well, so we shortened the title, make it more time-travel-y. Can you give us something that evokes “time-loop” for the cover?”
“Hmm, what about a glaiket looking bloke and a sheep?”
Libraryman comments: I love how it seems as if the characters are just randomly placed around this dead body. Kind of like a cluedo clue. “It was Sinbad with the scimitar in the dungeon!” Published 1995
This cover… is perfect!
Libraryman, good show sir!
Greengerg Comments: Forge the Season of the Witch, it’s the Season of the Bull according to the back cover, and nothing says demonic violence like a fat guy with cow horns slowly being turned into a Ravensburger jigsaw puzzle. Published 1974
Art Direction: Come on, the concept is so straight forward! Like hands growing other hands sorta like flowers, while one plays a tiny trumpet. What? No I went off my medication because it was making my eyes feel furry. Published 1975
Anne’s Art Direction: It’s a book of short stories by one of the most lyrical authors in the universe? I know, we’ll put a ripped blond naked guy on the front with something or other covering his nibbits. How about a tiger head? That sends the right sort of message, don’t you think? Then we’ll surround him with some dobermans for good measure. To top it off, we definitely need three different fonts but also distract everyone with an aurora border. Published 1978
Stevie Comments: Samuel Delaney’s Neveryona is so-over-the-top hetero soft porn. And the lead character is supposedly gay! What a bubble butt he’s got! I wish I had one of those! And what’s he doing with that giant sword, anyway? Published 1983
