It’s like “how much more black could this company be?” And the answer is none.

  2. CSA Says:

Oh, and don’t forget to draw a few white roses, you did an awesome job with them on my last cover! Oh oh oh, one more thing, can you like put a skeleton engraved into a boulder… that’ll look so evil people will lose their shit!

  3. SI Says:

    Haha

Yea I forgot about the roses… have you actually read these? Any good?

  4. CSA Says:

Ive sadly read the first 3 books (they’re only 200ish pages), they are fun and pretty dark, good story but very very badly written. think dragonlance

  5. SI Says:

Hey you know my dirty…. I kinda enjoy dragonlance secret….. but only because I read it as a kid.

I am finally thinking of investing in the Pete F Hamilton books this weekend…. finally… 😀

    P. F. Hamilton will blow your mind. Its one of the most richly created scifi worlds ive seen, and the character development is second to none.

There’s a good balance for comic relief too and some genuinely amusing scenes, no jar-jar binx characters though :'(

They are massive books though, but when your finished you’ll wish there was more. I’m amazed he isnt twice as popular as he is, he’s not really broken into the American market as much as he has in the UK.

So yes, i reccomend you buy them. I have to say though, it took me a good 100 pages to get into it (4 weeks), but after the characters grew on me i couldnt put it down.

CSA: yes, and the covers are, well, they’re possibly good space art but have very little to do with the books.

I’m afraid the Night’s Dawn series is best described as ‘high-tech torture porn’, though. Good in places, utterly winceworthy in others. And the less said about _Misspent Youth_ the better.

  8. SI Says:

Well from actually buying the book about 5 months after I said I would, I’m very nearly through the first book.

Have to say it has it fair share of ‘porking’. If it’s female then Joshua will sleep with it, he’s kinda like a Captain Kirk of sorts, except he’s going to have quite a few illegitimate children soon. 😉

I’m really enjoying it though find it very easy to get emerged in it all. And as a good old hammer horror fan I was well impressed with the epic priest action. haha

  9. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

The back cover shows her in rear view, from the neck down, sticking her head through a blue portal.

  10. Tat Wood Says:

Doing the Twist in woollen britches must chafe.

  11. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

The duchess who ran the Black Co.
Declared one day she would Tho.
    One who dumped pee
    On the Co.’s tree
So our fellow in green doesn’t do.!

    “Shadows Linger” or “Shadowslinger”?

    Either could work….

  13. Ryan Says:

This is one of the cover genre wherein the illustration does, in fact, show certain elements of some scene in the story. However, this genre of covers also utterly fail to capture the mood of the scene, creating a sort of weird pastiche / caricature of what happens in the book.

@Hammy: He’s got a sword, no sling, so I think that answers it.

I have never read a book by Glen Cook. I have, however, bought untold amounts of other books from him at various cons. Including the first two “Rivers of London” novels, which he suggested I might like. Indeed, I’m still reading that series.

So while I have no idea of the quality of his prose, he’s an excellent bookseller with a wide variety of material.

Good scan, front and back. I’m assuming that’s the Lady.
