Frank McC comments: First I thought “wonder if that guy on the cover realizes how close he came to getting whacked upside the head by that rocket” and then I saw the “unimaginable demensions”.

Art Direction: I looked, and there before me was a pale Pegasus! It’s rider was named Martin, the local high school geography teacher.

Art direction: A huge lake of lava flowing down from a pointed ice mountain, and a dragon chasing some guys encased in a magic crystal of ice as they meander down the lava. Wait… there’s something missing isn’t there… Got it! Have a white ice eagle chase them too. But is it their companion or tormentor?
Thanks to Stu!
Nix Comments: This book is reasonable-if-crappy (it’s a Modesitt, so it has Modesitt’s sole interchangeable plot) and the cover is a pretty good depiction of a scene from the book… but the cover is so badly done it distracted me from reading the book. I’m not even sure what’s wrong with it. Are those bobbleheads or are they actually almost in proportion and merely a horrible example of the dangers of having naturalistic heads and cartoon everything else? I don’t know.

Space pilots are so moody!
Thanks to Nix!
Tat Wood Comments: The back-cover blurb begins with the word WHY? in big letters, further comment is superfluous.

Frank Comments: Cover art by Gino D’Achille. Who I note wasn’t afraid to paint a lady warrior with a bit of convexity where her tummy should be. I approve!

Frank Comments: Saw this at the Friends of the Library sale where I volunteer, and remembered one of my brothers had a copy of it when I was very young. I remember being very creeped out by the image of the stuffing coming out of the open head. And they did it again on the back cover!
