Book Wench Comments: ‘Fear in Firland’ is a true masterpiece, written in the 1970s by the vicar of Ladywood, it has all the worst bits of Narnia thrown in with some Native American (?) possibly Middle Ages… something… Any cover that can combine flying saucers and squirrels are okay with me!

Marcus’ Art Direction: Fredric Brown mostly wrote short stories with twist endings. So let’s have a twist ending to the cover! But, at the same time, semi-naked women sell books. So we should have one of them. Not too big, though, we want lots of nice black space around.

Alessandra Comments: Can’t quite decide if it’s a brilliant absurdist collage or a goofball collection of oddments. Egg cartons over the breasts? Seriously? And bags of candy on the shoulders and RAF wings over the head and… Yeah, goofball collection of oddments.

Cathal’s Art Direction: It’s quite simple. A flaming-winged, bikini-clad woman with a sun for a head, rising out of a lopsided cauldron. And an amazon with a flaming arrow. See if you can make the amazon lopsided too, maybe give her two left legs… Looking good!
Published 1992
Many thanks to Cathal!

Art Direction: Look Moorcock’s covers are always strange. It’s like previous publishers took a handful of amphetamines before putting them to market. All we need is a big 80’s girls head floating in lots of clouds and some people on horses riding into war. No one will suspect any type of solvent abuse… well… until they read the thing!

Knautwerks art direction:
Okay, so, its an anthology of stories on ghosts, witches and demons. Cover ideas anyone?
How about a brain damaged dragon frolicking in a lake?
GENIUS!
Published 1971 (maybe)
So it’s a children’s book, but is there a better way to start your Monday!?!
Many thanks to Knautwerk!

NGpm Comments: Okay, so there’s this face vase thing on the left, but it’s a mushroom (just like what the art director just ate) … and a decaying woman that is scaring the mess out of a cat that lives in Salvador Daliwood.

Includes – The Puppet Masters, Double Star & The Door into Summer

Terry’s Art Direction: You see, nothing says ‘saving the universe from a 30,000 year descent into barbarism’ like a floating dead brain and two eyeballs. Oh, and be sure to lace it with lightning, and oh yeah it is a space story so put stars and stuff behind it.
Published 1983 (maybe)
Still not exactly sure who the publisher is.
Many thanks To Terry!
