Stevyn Comments: I’m ashamed to say that I was the artist in this case. A terrible cover for what is possibly the worst fantasy book ever written.
And with such great lines in this book such as, ‘The effeminate albino pursed his thick lips in that certain way to suggest he was male, but homosexual.’

Good Show Sir! Thank you for sending this in.
So lets say we have a black man and I really mean black. We’ll have him dressed in white skin, with nipples, because without the nipples it would just look strange. I am sure we can fob it off as social commentary. As long as we have the nipples.
GK’s Art Direction: I need this cover by 5 o’clock! Just go out and take a picture of something!

AHHH! Kill it! Kill it!
Many thanks to GK!
Charles Comments: No doubt retitled “Colin Wilson and The Sorcerer’s Stone” for the US edition.

Scott B’s Art Direction: We don’t want anyone to confuse this with the film “Labyrinth” which has just recently been released, so put something on there that nobody will mix up with that. Ah, how about a rooster-bear pondering deep thoughts? That’s the stuff.

Art Direction: Hey remember that time I had too many of those strawberry “stickers.” It was hilarious, I was all like, ‘OH GWAD help me! I’m fading into another world!’ Lets just draw that, expect, miss out the parts with my genitals. Keep the moustache though…

Benjamin Comments: “Listen, if this book sells more than 30 copies it’ll be a miracle. It’s done up in a strawberry-ice-cream-pink cover with a bright green toy rocket ship and some cheap plaster busts of LBJ and JFK and a coke bottle and a hamburger on the front — I showed it to a classroom full of gifted children up at the College of Marin and one kid said ‘That’s a toy book.'” – Richard A. Lupoff (Locus #159, 1974)
